The Vascular Neurology fellowship program is a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship. Our acute stroke services, stroke inpatient and outpatient units, and Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit are among the busiest in the country, with unmatched access to clinical and imaging technology. Fellows benefit from a broad clinical experience. They take care of patients on the acute stroke and telestroke services, the inpatient stroke service, the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit, and the Stroke Prevention Clinic. Fellows also gain expertise in Neurosonology through the performance and interpretation of transcranial and carotid doppler ultrasonography, and in Neuroradiology through the interpretation of the most up to date neuroimaging techniques for patients with acute neurologic disorders. Through our collaboration with Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, one of the most renowned rehabilitation hospitals in the country, fellows also receive training in neurorehabilitation.

While the one year fellowship is heavily clinically based, all fellows are strongly encouraged and supported in their development of independent basic science and/or clinical research projects in collaboration with members of the department. We believe that learning and applying a scientifically-based rigorous approach to data analysis, at the bedside and in research, are the foundation for providing outstanding care to the patients of today and improving the care of patients of tomorrow. In addition to the one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship, we also offer an optional additional year of stroke research fellowship. Collaborative opportunities for research are available at MGH and BWH as well as Harvard Medical School and MIT.
